Leeds Festival of Science
Now in its 14th year, the 2019 University of Leeds Festival of Science will be running from around the 8th March – 5th April 2019. Each year, to coincide with British Science Week, the University hosts hundreds of sessions, workshops, talks and demos, to get local pupils and the public excited about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

How does it work?

From September onwards, we ask for staff and postgraduates to sign up to deliver sessions. The printed programme will be available in November and sent to hundreds of local schools, and  we take bookings from December onwards.

The first half of the event, from 11th-22nd March, is usually when we offer ‘roadshows’ – one-hour long sessions to be delivered in school.

The on-campus sessions are likely to run from the 25th-29th.

Sessions can be on almost any topic in STEM, and for any age group. There are existing workshops and demos that you can be trained to deliver, or you can deliver your own ideas. The STEM Cluster team can support the development of these sessions if you would like guidance.

The STEM Cluster team coordinate all aspects of the school’s booking, you just need to turn up and do the delivery. We can sometimes provide undergraduate students hosts to help with this, or pair you up with other colleagues.

You can see examples of previous Festival activity by looking at last year’s pages. Both the schools programme and public programme are events mainly run by University of Leeds staff.

How do I sign up?

If you would like to deliver something in 2019, we will be asking for submissions from August onwards. You can also email us at STEM@leeds.ac.uk directly if you have questions.
