F1 in Schools Centre of Excellence (Pre & Post-16)

The University of Leeds School of Mechanical Engineering & STEM Outreach Team have partnered with F1 in Schools to provide a 'Centre of Excellence' for local secondary schools and colleges taking part in the F1 in Schools STEM Challenge.

What is a Center of Excellence?

Here at The University of Leeds F1 in Schools Centre of Excellence, we offer tailored support from pre-registration to submission which is delivered by our Mechanical Engineering Lecturers and Technicians.  This support includes:

  • Design Support (specialist knowledge of software being used)
  • Manufacturing Support (in person visit to manufacture cars using the CNC machine or option to send design files and cars to be sent out via post)
  • Mentoring support- meet ex-world finalist alumni studying Mechanical Engineering & Physics at the University of Leeds
  • Test Days : Tuesday 19 December 2023 & Tuesday 16 January 2024 (Access to F1 track and wind tunnels) - booking is essential

In addition to hosting the regional and/ national F1 in Schools events, the university is keen to develop a network of local schools and/ colleges taking part in the F1 in Schools STEM Challenge.

Professor Neil Bressloff, Head of the School of Mechanical Engineering said: “At Leeds, we are passionate about attracting more young people from under-represented groups to study STEM subjects at university, and we hope our collaboration with F1 in Schools will help us to realise this aspiration.”
