The In2STEM programme

The University of Leeds is partnering with In2Science to deliver the In2STEM programme.

The 2024 In2STEM programme (formerly In2science summer programme) will offer Year 12 (or S5/S6/college) students the opportunity to participate in both online and in-person activities. These activities help them to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to take the next steps in their STEM journey.

The programme consists of:

  • A practical, hands-on work experience placement hosted by STEM professionals. Placements connect students to experts working at the cutting edge of research and innovation.
  • Online skills, employability and careers workshops throughout the summer, connecting students with like-minded peers and experts, sharing knowledge, and helping students with their next step towards university, apprenticeships and a STEM career.
  • Public engagement competitions with prizes, giving students the opportunity to showcase their creative side and communicate what they have learnt on their work experience placement.

The programme will take place from 22 July 2024 to 23 August 2024 and the 1 to 2 week placements will be held within a commutable distance of where students live within this period. For students living in areas where placements are not currently accessible, the scheme is pleased to be offering In2STEM Online, providing opportunities regardless of where you live.

Before the In2STEM programme begins, students will be invited to an induction event sharing key information about the programme. In early autumn, they’ll attend a fun celebration event, recognising and celebrating everything they have achieved on the programme.

Students will also automatically gain access to the In2Science Alumni Community after completing the programme, joining a network of over 2000 members, and having the opportunity to explore online workshops, monthly newsletters, scholarships opportunities, events and more. Alumni community members can explore the interactive In2careers platform. Here, they can access the huge array of specially designed resources and tailored support.

The In2STEM programme is free to take part in. In2Science will also provide students with a bursary to cover travel and lunch costs during their work placement.
