Individual Participant Code of Conduct

All individual participants taking part in programmes at the University of Leeds are expected to adhere to the following code of conduct. This is to ensure not only your enjoyment, but the enjoyment of your fellow participants, student hosts and academic staff.

  1. For the duration of the course there will be a strict no-alcohol and no-smoking policy.
  2. You should not attempt to buy, sell or consume illegal substances. Anyone found in possession of illegal substances will be reported to the police and asked to leave the University.
  3. At no point should you jeopardise the safety or enjoyment of fellow participants, student hosts, academic staff others involved in the programme.
  4. You must follow reasonable requests from the University staff and student hosts.
  5. The use of abusive or anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated towards any other person at any time.
  6. You may not leave the University premises or other designated areas within the remit of the course without the consent of the course coordinator.
  7. You must abide by all health and safety rules as explained at the start of the course and during work in labs and workshops.
  8. Open-toed shoes or bare legs are not suitable for wearing in laboratories. Please ensure that you are wearing sensible shoes if applicable.
  9. You must not engage in any activities that may cause a danger or injury to yourself or others.
  10. You must adhere to the course schedule and be on time for each activity unless there is a valid reason.
  11. You must not vandalise, damage or misuse any property or accommodation belonging to the University of Leeds or other students.
  12. If attending a summer school, you will have an individual bedroom within a flat - you must not enter other people's bedrooms or invite them into your own.  There will be common areas where you are welcome to socialize with other students from the same flat before bedtime. 

The following is a list of items students are prohibited from bringing on the programme:

  • Alcohol and illegal substances
  • Weapons of any kind (including pocket knives, martial arts devices and water guns)
  • Pets of any kind
  • Bicycles, skateboards, in-line and roller skates
  • Laser pointers
  • Perishable foodstuffs

Participants involved in serious incidents of misbehaviour will not be allowed to continue on the programme and arrangements will be made for the student to be departing the University. Any costs involved in the transportation of the student will be met by the student and their parents/carers.
