In2scienceUK 2022 Programme

The University of Leeds is working in partnership with In2ScienceUK.

The In2scienceUK programme provides disadvantaged Year 12 students with the support, skills and experience needed to achieve their potential and progress to degrees, apprenticeships and careers in STEM.

The programme connects students to volunteers from different fields within STEM to share their insights and knowledge. Our volunteers host up to three students for a one or two week in-person placement during the summer of 2022 to complement our programme of online activities.

The In2scienceUK team provides full support and training to its volunteers to enable them to develop and deliver engaging opportunities, in turn helping students of all abilities to build the skills, knowledge and confidence to produce successful university and apprenticeship applications.

The 2022 In2scienceUK programme will deliver:

  • An in-person placement with a STEM professional such as you. During this one or two week placement you can give valuable insights into daily life working in STEM, boost your subject knowledge and provide valuable experience helping a young person forge their career journey.
  • Online workshops designed to provide young people with the soft skills they need to progress in university, apprenticeships and careers. These include careers panels, application advice, and talks from universities and employers.
  • Public engagement competitions to allow you and your students to spread your experiences and everything they’ve learned with the general public with the chance to win great prizes.

After the programme, students also also have the chance to join our exclusive alumni network. Here, they have the opportunity to connect with similar people, attend events, and receive support for their future.

Become an In2science volunteer

We are looking for volunteers with an interest in outreach and a passion for addressing the inequalities that exist within the STEM sector. Whether you’re an academic, PhD student, technician or other STEM professional, we want you to share your experiences with underrepresented students and help to ensure they reach their full potential.

With full training and support, we make it easy for you to create a lasting impact on the lives of young people and be the role model you would have wanted at their age.

Volunteering for In2scienceUK you will:

  • Make a real difference to the prospects of disadvantaged students
  • Receive expert training and support from experienced and friendly staff throughout
  • Gain skills and experience communicating with young people and online teaching
  • Promote diversity and inclusion in STEM by sharing your knowledge and experience with underrepresented students
