Join the University of Leeds for Exploring Environmental Pathways — a free, nationwide webinar series designed to showcase the breadth and impact of environment-related subjects at university level and careers available in the field.

This series of webinars will introduce teachers, advisors, and post-16 students to exciting and often lesser-known subject areas including:

  • Geology
  • Geophysics
  • Environmental Science
  • Sustainability
  • Food Science
  • Geography

Each session will highlight how these subjects differ from school-level study, introduce lesser-known subjects that can be studied at University, explore the courses available at Leeds. and opportunities for year in industry. The webinars provide insights into graduate career outcomes in the environment field.

Geology and Geophysics: The Hidden Industries - Recording available

Presenter: Dr Adam Booth, Associate Professor of Applied Geophysics, School of Earth and Environment

Who is it for: Geography, Maths, Physics, Environmental Science and Geology teachers and students, career advisors

What will be covered?

  • Myth busting: you don't need a A-level in Geology to study a degree in Geology.
  • Geophysics: a great option for Maths A-level students to apply their numerical skills, no 'geo subject' needed!
  • Career demand in Geology and Geophysics and what salaries can graduates expect.
  • How students will be using concepts from across a range of A-level subjects when studying Geology or Geophysics, as these courses give a lot of interdisciplinary awareness.

Geography Beyond A-level: A World of Possibilities - Tuesday 18 November 2025

Presenter: Dr Nick Hood, Lecturer in Quantitative Human Geography, School of Geography

Who is it for: Geography teachers and students, career advisors

What will be covered?

  • How studying Geography at University differs from A-level.
  • Understanding the differences between BA and BSc Geography, where modules offer opportunities for crossovers, examples of topics and modules studied at undergraduate level, and other subjects you can combine with Geography.
  • The breadth of careers available to Geography graduates in a wide range of industries.
  • Skills gained from a Geography degree and how they can be applied to many jobs and industries.
  • Fieldwork opportunities, year in industry and year abroad.

Uncovering the Food Science and Nutrition Industry - Thursday 5 February 2026

  • The role of food scientists in response to public health and environmental challenges to ensure food safety.
