Sunday 19 - Thursday 23 July, 2015

This non-residential summer school is a chance for high achieving Physics A level students to experience Physics at university through challenging workshops and practical activities.

The course is open to:

• Year 12 students who have completed an AS level in Physics and Maths and will be continuing with both subjects at A2 level.
• Students with the potential of achieving an A*, A or B at A2 level.
• Students from schools/colleges in West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Lancashire.

The aims for the course are outlined below:

• Advanced lessons and problem-solving skills in Classical and Quantum Mechanics.
• Experiments to develop skills needed for the A2 ISA coursework.
• Lectures given by university lecturers to provide some insight into the highly mathematical nature of the subject and what to expect at university.
• To provide an experience that will enthuse students and encourage them to study Physics at university.
• Information and procedures for applying to the Russell Group universities, provided by undergraduates and/or admission tutors.

Some of the activities planned include:

• Intensive tuition by teachers with many years experience of working with G&T students.
• Guest lectures given by university lecturers.
• A day working alongside a research group within the Physics department at Leeds University.

The content of the course is purposefully demanding, (but hopefully also rewarding), as it is intended for students with the potential of achieving an A*, A or B at A2 level. The cost of the course is only £30 and will contribute towards the costs for 4 lunches and refreshments. If you are interested in attending the course, please speak to your physics teacher or form teacher who will need to contact us through the email below to confirm that you fulfil the eligibility criteria outlined above.
