Engineering BTEC Masterclass Programme

Book your year 12 class to take part in a series of online interactive sessions from September 2020 – July 2021. Students will engage in three sessions (dates of your choice) exploring engineering at university delivered by lecturers, staff and post-graduate engineers from University of Leeds.

Each 60minute session will be online using Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, a platform used at university to deliver lectures and seminars, and you will need a large screen for all students to view. Students will gain an insight into what it is like to study engineering at University of Leeds, discover related careers and employability plus have frequently asked questions answered by Engineering Ambassadors (undergraduate students).

Sessions - to book 3 per school/college

This programme aims to inspire students to consider studying engineering at university after further education and address some of the barriers of applying to university faced by young people studying a BTEC at Post 16

The sessions are titled

  1. The world of engineering, research and academia
  2. Understanding your BTEC and personal strengths
  3. Applying to university, what can I achieve with a HE qualification

Students will meet lecturers that support students on course, admissions staff with knowledge around widening access schemes and alternative pathways plus have an insight into the interview stages and maths required when applying to engineering courses at University of Leeds.

How to book

As a teacher please book sessions on behalf your class by completing the  online enquiry form with your preferred dates for 2020/21. Please allow at least 3 weeks before your first session date. Once completed a member of staff will confirm your requested dates based on the availability of presenters.

Note this programme is for year 12 students studying an engineering BTEC (can be alongside an A Level) with an interest in pursuing engineering at the next level. It is compulsory that the same students attend all three sessions in 2020/21.
