Food Science Summer School 2024

 

Join us on-campus from the 8th - 10th of July 2024 for the annual food science and nutrition summer school. Successful applicants will take part in a series of activities which aim to give young scientists an introduction to the multidisciplinary area of food science and nutrition, while finding out more about studying at the University of Leeds. This years summer schools will focus on food sustainability from farm to fork; participants will develop an understand of the different processes which go into food product development, while also considering sustainability in food science, nutrition, and product development.

Planned activities include: carrying out a food science investigation, taking part in a nutrition activity, academic taster lectures, finding out more about food science related careers, exploring the campus and learning more about the student experience.

This programme is open to all year 12 students who are studying a core science or maths at A-level or equivalent.

The summer school is free to attend however we understand there may be travel costs associated for some applicants, if you are concerned about the costs of attending the summer school please get in touch and we will do our best to provide support and reassurance to those who need it.

Apply for the Food Sciences Summer School

We invite applications from all Year 12 students, but priority will be given to those who live in an area of low progression to higher education and/or those who meet 1 or 2 of the following criteria:

  • Your parents or carers did not go to university
  • You are from a household with a gross annual income of £25,000 or below
  • You attended or attend a school which achieved below the national average Attainment 8 score at GCSE
  • Your studies have been disrupted due to personal circumstances
  • You are care experienced

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, including Gypsy, Romany and Traveller.
