What do you want most from a Summer School?

“A huge understanding of University life. I met some amazing people and glad that I have done the course THANK YOU”

“It was very inspirational and I feel I am more confident about I want to do at University.”

“I really didn’t want to go back to normal school led teaching, I wanted to be at Uni the next day!”

“I had gone to other Universities thinking I wanted to study Biology but it wasn’t until I came to Leeds and did practicals and mock lectures that I knew Biomedical Science was more suited to what degree I wanted to study”

Summer School – Biological Sciences

Summer School, 26-27 June 2018

Experience what it’s really like to study biological sciences…

Come and enjoy the full University of Leeds experience, with two days to explore the campus, attend lectures, take part in a research project and live in University halls.

As well as lectures, students will be involved in a project of their preference, getting to experience what researching is really like from start to finish, in our brand-new teaching laboratories. Students will be designing their experiments, using advanced lab equipment to get their results and presenting their findings to their peers, much like we do here at the University. There will also be plenty of chances to speak to our academics, and find out about our undergraduate degree programmes.

The Summer School is also designed to enhance your UCAS application, with an opportunity to speak to our own admissions staff, and get advice on the best way to use what you have learnt at the event in your personal statement.

Social time and activities

Students have the option to choose how they spend their free evening on campus from these activities – those who receive a place will get more details in their offer letter. Everyone will have to chance to check out our brilliant Students Union, which in 2016 was the first in the UK to be voted ‘Excellent by the National Union of Students,, and in ‘Which?‘ and ‘What Uni‘s top Student Unions in the country. Our undergraduate students will also be on-hand to answer any and all questions through the day and evening.

You will be spending the evening in on of our on-campus halls of residence, in a private room (but with shared living quarters).

All the activities, accommodation and catering over the two days of the summer school cost £50, payable upon acceptance of a place. Travel to and from the summer school is not included, and is the responsibility of attendees.

Access to Leeds Scholarship

There are some scholarships available to candidates who fit the University of Leeds ‘Access to Leeds’ criteria. If successful, delegates with a scholarship will not need to pay the fee and will be able to claim reimbursement on travel. Eligibility details can be found on the Access to Leeds eligibility pages

The Summer School starts at 10:00am on day 1 and finishes 16:45pm on day 2. You will be expected to attend the full event if you are successful in receiving a place. Please make sure you allow enough time to get to/from the University for any public transport

University of the Year 2017

The University of Leeds was named ‘University of the Year 2017’ by the Times and Sunday Times newspapers, as a result of its consistently high student satisfaction levels, investment in buildings, the huge range of destinations to study abroad and an emphasis on developing employability skills throughout your time here. Take the opportunity to come to our campus, meet our staff and students, and see why we’re University of the Year 2017.

Application has closed for 2018’s event. Application for 2019 will open in December 2018
